Cannabis is generally permitted at the Southside Festival 2026 – at least for adults, within the scope of legal regulations. Those over 18 years of age may carry and consume up to 25 grams. We clarify what exactly is allowed, what you should pay attention to, and how you can approach the topic in a relaxed and responsible way.
The current legal situation at a glance
Since April 2024, the possession and consumption of cannabis in Germany has been partially legalized for adults. The law allows adults to privately possess up to 25 grams of cannabis in public. At home, up to 50 grams may be stored. The home cultivation of up to three plants is also permitted. These regulations apply nationwide and thus also on festival grounds like Southside.
Possession and consumption: What is allowed?
As an adult, you may carry and consume up to 25 grams of cannabis. Consumption is generally permitted in public, but there are protected zones: Consumption is prohibited in the immediate vicinity of schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, and youth facilities (100-meter radius). In pedestrian zones, a consumption ban also applies between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Important: Sales remain illegal – only acquisition through cannabis clubs or home cultivation is permitted.
Special features on festival grounds
Festival grounds are legally considered public spaces, unless the organizer specifies different house rules. This means that the general legal regulations also apply here. However, organizers have the right to enforce house rules and can impose additional restrictions. Controls at the entrance are common, and security personnel may intervene if they suspect illegal substances or quantities exceeding the permitted limits. We recommend that you inform yourself about the specific festival rules in advance.
Official regulations of the organizer
The Southside Festival will take place from June 19 to 21, 2026, and adheres to legal requirements. The organizer has not yet communicated any stricter restrictions than the legal provisions. This means: Adults may carry up to 25 grams of cannabis and consume it on the premises. Nevertheless, house rules apply – in case of violations of the festival rules or harassment of other guests, a ban from the premises can be issued. Current information can be found on the official website of the festival.
Carrying, consumption, and controls
Your luggage may be checked at the entrance. Stick to the 25-gram limit and transport cannabis in its original packaging or neutrally packaged. Open consumption is allowed on the premises, as long as you do not bother or endanger anyone. Smoking is permitted in most areas, but pay attention to designated non-smoking zones or areas with increased fire protection. Be respectful of other festival-goers – not everyone wants to be exposed to smoke.
What happens in case of violations?
Anyone carrying more than 25 grams commits an administrative offense or a criminal offense – depending on the amount. Security personnel can call the police, who will then act accordingly. For minor offenses, a warning or a ban from the premises usually follows. Larger quantities can lead to charges and fines. Consumption in protected zones or passing it on to minors will also be consistently punished. Stay within the rules, and nothing will stand in the way of a relaxed festival.
Keep dosage and effects in mind
Festivals are intense: many people, loud music, little sleep. Cannabis can alter perception, and the effects vary individually. Start with a low dose, especially if you do not consume regularly. The effect can vary depending on the strain, form of consumption, and personal constitution. Edibles have a delayed and longer effect – plan accordingly. Pay attention to your body and do not overestimate yourself. Water, breaks, and a safe retreat are important.
Consideration for others and the environment
Not everyone wants to smell cannabis or be exposed to smoke. Find places away from families or larger crowds. Dispose of packaging and remnants properly – the site should remain pleasant for everyone. Respect the boundaries of others and do not force your consumption on anyone. A mindful approach ensures that everyone can enjoy the festival and cannabis does not become a point of contention.
Don't forget safety and health
Do not mix cannabis with alcohol or other substances – the interactions are unpredictable. Stay hydrated and eat regularly. If you feel unwell, seek out the first-aid tent. The staff is trained and discreet. Do not drive under the influence – the effects can still last the day after the festival. Plan your journey home with public transport or have someone drive you. Your safety comes first.
CBD products as relaxing companions
CBD products are a legal alternative without psychoactive effects. They can contribute to relaxation without altering perception. CBD oils, capsules, or flowers with a THC content of less than 0.2 percent are freely available in Germany and can be carried without restrictions. Many appreciate the calming effect after long festival days. We compare over 1000 products – from oils to vapes to flowers with different aroma profiles.
What you can safely bring
In addition to CBD, other hemp products such as hemp teas, hemp seeds, or hemp protein are completely unproblematic. They contain no or only traces of THC and are not subject to the Narcotics Act. Hemp tea with earthy notes can be a nice morning ritual, hemp seeds provide energy for long festival days. For CBD flowers, make sure you have laboratory certificates or purchase receipts with you – this avoids misunderstandings during controls. We help you find the right products.
