Time Warp 2026 will take place on March 21st in Mannheim – and yes, cannabis is permitted. However, only in the outdoor areas of the festival. We explain what this specifically means, which rules apply, and what you should pay attention to if you want to bring legal hemp products.
Cannabis at Time Warp: The Official Regulation
Since the partial legalization in Germany, many organizers have adjusted their house rules. Time Warp is one of the festivals that allow cannabis consumption under certain conditions – with clear spatial limits.
Outdoor Areas: Consumption Permitted
You may consume cannabis in all outdoor areas of the Maimarktgelände. This includes open spaces, terraces, and all open-air zones. The same rules apply here as in public spaces: You are of legal age, consumption is legal as long as you adhere to the legal quantity limits.
Indoor Areas: Consumption Prohibited
Consumption is not permitted inside the halls themselves – i.e., where the music is playing and dancing takes place. This applies to all enclosed spaces at the festival. If you want to smoke, you must go outside. This rule applies without exception to all tobacco and cannabis products.
What does this mean for visitors?
You can bring your products and have them on the premises. You are only allowed to consume them in the designated outdoor areas. This means planning short breaks in the fresh air if you want to consume in between. Bringing them into the halls is allowed, but consumption there is not.
Which hemp products are allowed?
Not all cannabis products have the same legal status. We'll sort out what you can safely bring and where you should be careful.
THC-containing Cannabis: Observe Legal Situation
Since April 2024, you are permitted to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis in public. This quantity also applies to festivals. Make sure you do not exceed this limit – checks are possible. Acquisition is legal through cultivation associations or personal cultivation; the black market remains prohibited. Only bring what you intend to consume yourself; sharing with others is not permitted.
CBD Products: Uncomplicated and Legal
CBD flowers, oils, or vapes are completely legal and can be carried without quantity limits. They do not contain significant THC and are not subject to the Narcotics Act. For many, they are a relaxed alternative – with a mild character, without psychoactive effects. Perfect if you appreciate the herbal notes but want to forgo THC.
HHC, THCP, and other Cannabinoids
The legal situation for synthetic or semi-synthetic cannabinoids is unclear. HHC was banned in 2024, and THCP is in a grey area. We advise: Stay away from products whose status is unclear. During checks, problems can arise, even if you had no bad intentions. Stick to classic cannabis or CBD – that way, you'll be on the safe side.
Practical Tips for the Festival Visit
A few simple considerations will make the day more relaxed and help you adhere to the regulations without it becoming complicated.
Transport and Carrying
Pack your products in a sealable box or bag – this protects against moisture and keeps aromas discreet. Only bring as much as you really need. Less is simpler, especially when you switch between indoor and outdoor areas. Remember a small lighter and possibly papers if you have flowers with you.
Consume Discreetly and Considerately
Even if consumption is allowed: Not everyone likes the smell of cannabis. Keep your distance from entrances, food stalls, and crowded areas. Find a quiet spot in the outdoor area where you won't disturb anyone. This makes handling more pleasant for everyone and avoids unnecessary discussions.
Alternatives for Indoor Areas
If you don't want to constantly go outside, edibles or capsules can be an option. They last longer, don't require a smoke break, and are inconspicuous. CBD vapes are also an option – although they too may only be used outdoors. Plan your breaks consciously; then the transition between the dance floor and the outdoor area becomes a small ritual instead of an interruption.
Why this regulation makes sense
The restriction to outdoor areas is not harassment, but follows understandable reasons – for your safety and that of other guests.
Fire Protection and Safety
In enclosed spaces with many people, open flames pose a risk. Glowing ash, carelessly discarded cigarette butts, or hot vaporizers can quickly become dangerous in a dense crowd. Outdoor areas offer more space, better ventilation, and less fire load. This protects everyone – and still allows consumption for those who want it.
Consideration for Other Guests
Not everyone wants to inhale cannabis smoke; some are sensitive or simply want peace and quiet. This is hard to avoid indoors, but outdoors, the scent dissipates faster. The regulation creates space for different needs – without anyone having to go without. This way, the festival remains a good place for everyone.
